Attacker at school: how to prepare your child? Run, hide, call 112
⏱ 2 min read
Talking with your child, the school’s plan, warning signs. A guide based on official advice. The same text is in the free SurvivalZone.app and works without internet.
Knife attacks at schools happen in Europe too. They are rare, but a few simple rules make it more likely that a child does the right thing.
Talk about it calmly and without frightening them.
Talking with your child
- Teach three steps: run, hide, and when you are safe, call 112.
- Tell them you will not call them during an alarm, and that they should silence their phone.
- Agree that afterwards you wait for the school’s message about where to collect them.
The school
- Ask at a parents’ meeting what the procedure is for an attack and how the school informs parents.
- Classrooms should lock from the inside.
Warning signs
- Report threats online, announcements of an attack, drawings or posts about violence to the school and the police.
- Better to report too much than too little.
Checklist
- My child knows: run, hide, call 112
- I know the school’s procedure
- I know how the school sends messages
- I can stop severe bleeding
