Storm, strong wind: what to do, step by step

Storm, strong wind: what to do, step by step

High winds, lightning. Below: what to do right away, what next, when to call 112 and what to avoid. The same instructions are in the free SurvivalZone app and work without internet.

First, right now

  1. Stay indoors, away from windows.
  2. Bring in or tie down anything on the balcony or in the garden.
  3. Charge your phone and power bank, get a torch ready.

Then

  1. Outdoors, keep away from trees, poles, scaffolding and billboards.
  2. In a car, stop in an open area away from trees.
  3. During a thunderstorm, don't stand under a lone tree, on high ground or in water.

When to call 112

Fallen power lines, a tree on a building or car, or anyone injured.

What not to do

Keep it on your phone

SurvivalZone is a free app for every emergency, with no account and no app store. It works without internet and shows the nearest shelters and help points, local radio, a 72-hour plan and a mountain trip planner.
