Bomb threat or suspicious item: what to do? Threat calls, evacuation, explosion

⏱ 2 min read
Bomb threat, evacuation, attack. Below: what to do right away, what next, when to call 112 and what to avoid. The same instructions are in the free SurvivalZone.app and work without internet.
First, right now
- See an unattended bag or item that looks suspicious? Do not touch it or look inside. Move well away and get behind a solid wall. If you can see it, you may be within range.
- Report it to security, building staff or 112. Warn others to keep away.
- Evacuation announced? Leave calmly, take your own bags and belongings, follow the marked route and the instructions of security and the police.
Then
- Threat by phone? Stay on the line, keep calm, keep the caller talking and write down the time, exact words, voice and background noise. Then call 112 and tell your manager.
- Threat by email? Do not delete it, take a screenshot and report it to 112.
- After an explosion, get away as fast as you can. There may be a second device, so do not gather in groups or go back.
- Someone bleeding? Press hard on the wound. For heavy bleeding from an arm or leg, put a tourniquet above the wound.
- Inside a building after an explosion, use the stairs, not the lift. If there is smoke, stay low.
When to call 112
Always when you see a suspicious item, receive a threat or hear an explosion. Say where you are, what you see and whether anyone is hurt.
What not to do
- Do not pick up, move or photograph the item from close by.
- Do not use your phone or a radio right next to the item. Call once you have moved away.
- Do not post photos or details of the evacuation while the emergency services are working.
