Robbery in a shop, bank or on the street: what to do?

⏱ 2 min read
Someone threatens you and demands money. Below: what to do right away, what next, when to call 112 and what to avoid. The same instructions are in the free SurvivalZone.app and work without internet.
First, right now
- Do not resist. Hand over the money, phone or bag. Things can be replaced, you cannot.
- Move slowly, keep your hands visible and say what you are doing: “I am opening the till”.
- Do not stare the robber down, but remember: height, clothes, voice, distinguishing features, weapon, which way they went.
Then
- Once the robber has gone, lock the door and call 112. Say which way they went and how.
- Do not touch anything the robber touched. Ask witnesses to stay until the police arrive.
- Write down the description straight away, before you talk to others. Memories mix quickly.
- Card or phone taken? Block the card with your bank and the phone with your network.
- A robbery is very stressful. Talk to people close to you or a counsellor. Your employer should help too.
When to call 112
Always, as soon as the robber has gone and it is safe. Straight away if someone is hurt.
What not to do
- Do not chase the robber.
- Do not set off the alarm if the robber can see you.
- Do not film them with your phone during the robbery.
