E-scooter accident: what to do? Head injury and first aid

⏱ 2 min read
Fall, head injury, collision. Below: what to do right away, what next, when to call 112 and what to avoid. The same instructions are in the free SurvivalZone.app and work without internet.
First, right now
- Make the scene safe: get off the road or warn others. If a car is involved, ask the driver to switch on the hazard lights.
- Check whether the injured person is responsive and breathing normally. Not breathing normally: call 112 and start CPR.
- Neck or back pain, or no feeling in arms or legs? Do not take off the helmet and do not move them. Call 112.
Then
- Press on any bleeding with a clean cloth. Rinse grazes with clean water and cover them.
- After a blow to the head, watch the person for a full day. Vomiting, drowsiness, a bad headache, confusion or unequal pupils mean going to A&E.
- Take photos of the scene, the vehicles and the injuries. Note down witnesses. If a car was involved, call the police.
- Rental e-scooter? Report the accident in the operator’s app.
When to call 112
Someone lost consciousness, even briefly, has a seizure, is vomiting, has a bad headache, neck or back pain, numb arms or legs, heavy bleeding or a broken bone.
What not to do
- Do not ride again after hitting your head.
- Do not leave someone with a head injury alone for the first 24 hours.
- Do not ride two on one scooter or after drinking.
